All cooling water systems should be equipped with corrosion coupons and these coupons should be sent in for analysis on a regular quarterly basis. Most coupon racks allow for exposure of coupons representing the different alloys in the system. After a prescribed period of exposure, coupons are removed and fresh coupons inserted in their place. • Operation at higher cycles of concentration (lower blow-down) than chemical treatment systems means higher pH and therefore generally lower corrosion rates.
• Improved protection against attachment of particulates to metal components reduces chances for galvanic corrosion.
